Washington State Uncontested Divorces

Uncontested Flat Fee Divorces For $495 (Plus Filing Fee):

While most of what I do is contested divorce and family law, many times clients know what they want to do. They need advice; they need the divorce papers done quickly, smoothly, and correctly, at a low cost, with minimal fuss and bother. If this is your divorce, I have a low cost, flat fee divorce package for you.

What you get when you use my office: you get all the advice you need, from an experienced family law attorney. (The average is between one and two hours of talking.) You know all of the orders are done correctly. You make sure the agreement between the two of you (including the parenting plan and child support order) is an enforceable as it is possible to be. You save the time and hassle of attending the Family Law Orientation Seminar (in King County); and you can finalize the divorce at your convenience, on a walk-in basis, rather than having to file a Note for Calendar 14 days beforehand.

Here’s the way it works. You and I meet. I get all the information about the division of assets, the liabilities, spousal support, parenting plans, and any other issues you may have. This is where my experience comes in: about half the time there are things you have not thought of. I know how most people handle the problems and how to avoid them. This saves you problems down the road, sometimes years down the road.
I draft all of the pleadings, including:

  • State Certificate of Dissolution
  • Confidential Information Form (CIF)
  • Summons
  • Petition
  • Joinder
  • Acceptance of Service
  • Parenting Plan
  • Residential Time Summary
  • Child Support Order and Worksheets
  • Quit Claim Deed and Excise Tax Affidavit
  • QDRO (to divide 401K’s and Pensions)
  • Findings of Fact
  • Decree of Dissolution

Just as an example: I have attached a set of divorce pleadings, from a sample case, here, to show what they look like when I prepare them.  (This is NOT an actual case.)

Some of the State Forms are here. You decide which ones you would rather use.

I email them to you as a pdf file. You go over them with your spouse, and call or email me with changes. We discuss them. I make the changes and do a final packet of forms. You pick them up or I mail them out to you. Both you and your spouse sign everything. (One of the keys to a clean, successful divorce that is done in 91 days is to sign everything before you file it.) Then you get all of the signed forms back to me. I e-file it, and get a case number. Then all you have to do is wait 90 days.

How Much Does It Cost? The cost is simple: $495.00 for my time; plus $282.49 for the filing fee. There are other fees, sometimes: $73 or so to record a quit claim deed; sometimes the pension administrator charges to process a QDRO. But other than those fees (that I collect from you, because I write the check), that’s it!

What Happens If The Divorce Goes Sideways?  About 10-15% of the time, despite your best efforts, a divorce that starts out uncontested goes sideways, and we end up having a fight. If that happens, I have to start billing you at my normal hourly rate of $250 an hour. But we talk – a lot! – before that happens.
